journey DAY 2, Wed Arrive and transfer to your hotel: SHANGHAI DAY 3, Thurs Day at leisure or enjoy an optional half day tour to the Shanghai Museum and Bund. Begin with a visit to the Shanghai Museum, with its collection of 120,000 items of precious cultural relics. The relics include bronze ware, pottery and porcelain ware, calligraphy, paintings, jade and ivory ware, bamboo, wood and lacquer ware, inscribed bones and tortoise shells, seals, coins and handicrafts of the minority nationalities. Depart the museum for the Bund, former "Wall Street" of the foreign powers and is the park-like promenade between the Wusong River and the Old Town ($48) (B): SHANGHAI DAY 4, Fri Day at leisure or enjoy an optional half day tour of the Yu Garden and Jade Buddha. This morning visit the Yu Garden, built in the Ming Dynasty. A high-ranking official named Pan Yunduan, a native of Shanghai who once took office in Sichuan Province, owned the garden. Pan had the garden erected in the hope of pleasing his parents in their old age. "Yu" in Chinese means "pleasure" or "happiness," hence the name Yuyuan Garden. Depart Yu Garden for Jade Buddha Temple, the temple derives its name from its two fine white jade Buddhas, one recumbent on a redwood bed, and the other seated on lotus flower. In 1882, the two Buddha statues were brought to China from Burma ($40). This evening at leisure (B): SHANGHAI DAY 5, Sat Day at leisure or enjoy an optional half day tour of the into daily life in Shanghai. Today visit the local residence of the Shanghainese. Visit the kindergarten, the school, and the market. In the market, find how the Shanghainese buy the daily food for their family.
